Manchester, NH – The first annual NH Sports Concussion Expo will be held on Saturday, September 22nd from 10:00am to 3:00pm at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester.  Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics will be participating in the event that is being hosted by the New Hampshire NeuroSpine Institute (NHNSI). This free concussion education program will feature giveaways, raffles, sports celebrities, demonstrations and roundtable discussions about concussions and concussion management.  One attendee will win $2,500 in sports safety equipment and free ImPACT testing for an entire team of his or her choice. Former New England Patriots players Steve Nelson and Steve DeOssie will share stories along with legendary sports broadcaster Bob Lobel.

Coaches, parents, participants, athletic directors and athletes of all ages are encouraged to attend.  Experts in the field of concussion management, Dr. Kevin Heaton of Access Sports Medicine and Dr. Adam Cugalj of the NH Neurospine Institute will participate in a question and answer session on the dangers of concussions.

The event will also promote ImPACT baseline testing, which is a 20 minute neurocognitive test that has been scientifically validated to measure the effects of a sports-related concussion.  ImPACT baseline testing is performed on athletes at the beginning of a season.  In the case of a head injury, the athlete can take a post-injury test and the data will be used as a factor in managing the concussion to help determine when it is safe to return to play.  Both Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics and the New Hampshire Neurospine Institute are Credentialed ImPACT Test Consultants.
