Exeter, NH – Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics will be hosting a free interactive discussion on Thursday, January 19th at 6pm at One Hampton Road in Exeter, NH.  The program will include a presentation by Dr. David Davis on “ACL Injuries and Other Common Winter Sports Injuries” followed by a presentation by Dr. Kevin Heaton on “Helmet Use and Concussions in Winter Sports.”  Mike Thompson, ATC, a certified athletic trainer and fitness instructor for Access Acceleration, will go over exercises and stretching techniques that can be performed prior to and following a day of skiing and snowboarding to help prevent injury.

The most common traumatic injuries associated with skiing and snowboarding are ACL injuries of the knee, shoulder dislocations or fractures, lower extremity fractures, spinal injuries, head injuries and wrist, hand or thumb injuries.  Thankfully, most snow sport injuries are minor, strains, sprains or bumps and bruises.  However, more serious injuries are possible and can be catastrophic, resulting in a lengthy recovery.

Dr. Davis will go over the injuries most often associated with winter sports and how they can be prevented.  Dr. Heaton will talk about the importance of helmet use in winter sports and what role helmets play in the prevention of concussions and other head injuries.  Attendees will have the opportunity to win raffle prizes and snacks and light refreshments will be available.  Please RSVP for this discussion as space is limited to ecimon@accesssportsmed.com or call 603-775-7575.
